Exploring

I got up and fed the big cats and then put them up so that Cali could come out and explore. She had the best time running all over the house for about an hour while I got ready. She also thought up a game. She would run up and meow at me, then run away when I tried to pick her up. She did this several times and appeared to have the best time playing keep away. The only bad thing was when I had to put her in her room to got to work she tried to escape and nearly got shut in the door. I stopped the door and she ran backwards really fast, it scared her too. Got the door closed then and left for work all shaky because of the adrenaline but at least she's OK.

Cali has graduated to a real litter box at last! No more improvised tiny things for her, she's a big girl now lol! She's so playful, I'm hoping the whole room has enough space for her to play. It's covered in toys. It's just nice to see her so open and willing now where as previously she was so scared.

Cali was super hyper tonight! Gave her more room to roam now that she knows what a litter box is and is using it consistently. It's amazing how in just a week she went from afraid of EVERYTHING to bold enough to walk up to a tom cat twelve times her size lol. She is still cautious...well sometimes. She brave enough to jump out of my arms and off my desk but timid and scared of the air coming in from an open window. Silly kitty.
Cali got loose today and ran into Casper, my big white tom cat. He's not happy about that at all. She on the other hand has gotten very bold and has decided that she wants to explore the house, whether I want her to or not! We'll have to make sure to keep the door closed to the room we keep her in now, ecspecially if the other cats are around. Don't want them to decide to hurt her and further more she hasn't been to the vet yet, so have to make sure she's free of anything that they could catch before she really gets to meet them.
On a lighter note, trying to set up a live webcam feed so that I can keep an eye on her during the day. Got it half way done. Maybe I can finish the rest tonight.

Cali day 3

This is Cali on dad's bed. She's looking back at him and right after I took this picture she tried to burrow behind his pillow to hide. Even so, she was doing a lot better by this point and he made her a little hidey hole with two pillows and a throw pillow on top that he lets her hide in when she's on his bed.
This is Cali the first day that I found her. You can see the fear in her eyes as she nestles down in the box. If I took her out she would try her best to find a new place to hide, usually in my jacket. When someone else went to pet her she would hiss. She had no trust for people and at the same time as soon as she realized that a person's touch was gentle she would stop hissing. She seemed to realize quickly that no one meant her harm and after only a few hours she stopped hissing at new people all together.

Cali's story

Cali was found underneath an air conditioning unite on the campus at the State University of West Georgia. She was part of a feral litter but was the only one that I was able to catch. Originally the plan was to get her acclimated to people and then when she was ready to find her a good forever home. Then my father decided that he wanted to keep her instead. I decided to write a blog detailing the trials of a formerly feral kitten adjusting to life with people now.
When I first grabbed Cali she hissed and spit and even bit me. She spent most of the first day finding places to hide and cowering away from people. She had been scavenging who knows what to eat so even regular cat food upset her stomach. After five days she has become comfortable in the room that we have been keeping her in and she no longer runs when I or my Dad come into the room. She's still not sure about other people though. She is starting to act and play like a normal kitten but she still has a long way to go.
